Bernie Sanders says the right to vote should be extended "even for terrible people"
"This is a democracy and we have got to
expand that democracy and I believe every single person does have the
right to vote," he said
Asked if sex offenders, the Boston marathon bomber, terrorists and murderers should have the right to vote, Sanders said, "Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away and you say, 'Well, that guy committed a terrible crime, not going to let him vote. Well, that person did that. Not going to let that person vote,' you're running down a slippery slope."
He went on to say:
You gotta watch the whole clip. Chris Cuomo even asked Bernie in a followup question if he was sure he’d let the Boston Marathon bomber vote from jail, telling him that he’s essentially writing a 30-second ad against himself. And he still doubled down, saying this is what he believes!
And he didn’t just say he’d let the jihadi bomber vote, he’d let sexual predators and murderers vote too – all from inside jail!
It’s absolutely insane.
And his logic, that if we start saying this criminal can’t vote or that one can’t vote, that it’s a slippery slope or something – that’s ridiculous!
You should absolutely lose your voting privilege if you commit a violent felony. I know there’s some debate about other crimes, but this should be the case especially for those who’ve used violence against their fellow citizens.
Crazy Bernie just outdid himself with this answer. And I hope every single Democrat in the 2020 elections says the exact same thing.
All the easier for Trump to defeat them next year.

"So I believe people commit crimes and they paid the price and they have the right to vote. I believe even if they're in jail they're paying their price to society but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy."
