Sen. Lindsey Graham argues Trump’s speech was ‘politically protected’ and ‘did not cause the riot’ on Capitol Hill
“I was a bit surprised,” Senator Lindsey Graham said to Fox’s Chris Wallace on Sunday about how Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell went to the microphone after Trump was acquitted and absolutely trashed him, practically calling Trump a criminal and implying our former president could face charges and investigations going forward in the courts.
And he said that the speech could haunt Republicans for years, in the GOP’s attempt to regain majorities.
“If you’re a Republican running in Arizona or Georgia or New Hampshire, where we have a chance to take back the Senate, they may be playing Sen. McConnell’s speech and asking you about it as a candidate,” he said. “And I imagine if you’re an incumbent Republican, they’re going to be people asking if you will support Sen. McConnell in the future.”
He also talked about the impeachment itself was opening a “Pandora’s Box” on impeachments, and that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Vice President* Kamala Harris face impeachment in the House for her own incitement, and giving aid and comfort to criminal terrorists.
Pandora’s box IS open. It can’t be closed. If the GOP tries to play “high ground” they’re idiots. They should impeach Kamala the instant they have the chance, now, two years from now, or even after she leaves office. Precedents are set.
"I don't know how Kamala Harris doesn't get impeached if the Republicans take over the House, because she actually bailed out rioters, and one of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody's head open," Graham said. "So we've opened Pandora's box here, and I'm sad for the country."
In June, Harris and other Democrats urged people to contribute to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which was posting bail for people arrested during George Floyd protests.
