MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson claimed that when people think of Florida, they mostly think of "crystal meth and alligators."

Image
While guest hosting "The ReidOut" on Tuesday, MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson claimed that DeSantis would not appeal to voters on a national level if he decides to run for president because of how voters from   other states view Florida . "You run from Florida, it’s all crystal meth and alligators, right? I mean, that’s what people think," Johnson said.  "And I’m not saying that’s the case. I’m saying those are sort of the national reputations of those states." "So, when you see Ron DeSantis running and claiming that he’s going to do for America what he’s done in Florida, it seems like that’d be a problem," he said. The host was trying to explain how presidential candidates may be perceived differently depending on the reputation of the state they are running from. " In my view, there are three states that you can’t really run from if you’re trying to win across America. You run from New York, you’re too crazy, you’re a liberal. You run fr

Kamala Harris dismisses unpopularity among Democrats ahead of 2024: 'Political chatter'

Image
Vice President Kamala Harris joins Andrea Mitchell for an exclusive interview at the Munich Security Conference to discuss U.S.-China relations, the one year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, and the upcoming 2024 election. Harris deflects criticism from some Democrats that she shouldn’t be on the 2024 ticket, saying “it is very important to focus on the needs of the American people and not political chatter out of Washington D.C.” and that she intends to run with Biden as Vice President in 2024. "Dozens of Democratic leaders are saying that they not only don’t think that he’s the strongest candidate, you know, considering the larger field that could be possible given his age and other defects, but they don’t think that you’re the right person to be on the ticket. Why do you think that?" Mitchell asked. Harris said it was important to focus on the needs of the American people and not on "political chatter" coming from Washington, D.C. Mitchell also asked Harri

Civil Rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton led a contingent to protest Florida's attempt to banish Black history from public schools, including the DeSantis administration’s attempts to block an  Advanced Placement ( AP) African American studies course. Sharpton and a group of students, parents, civil-rights leaders and elected officials gathered at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. and marched to the Old Florida State Capitol to protest DeSantis' recent action to require revisions to the high school AP African American Studies course.  Sharpton was joined by the president of the Tallahassee chapter of the National Action Network Rev. RB Holmes to protest DeSantis' actions. "Governor DeSantis is trying to turn February into Erase Black History Month," Sharpton said in a statement. "Banning these courses is in Chapter One of the playbook for disenfranchising Black Americans. We'll be in Tallahassee next week to take a stand agains

BREAKING: The top General from NORAD and John Kirby admit the U.S. Military did not detect the earlier Chinese spy flights during the Trump Administration.

President Biden "still learning things" about the unidentified flying objects and taking time to "absorb that information" before sharing with the American public, National Security Council strategic communications coordinator   John Kirby said   Tuesday. Kirby appeared on MSNBC’s "Katy Tur Reports" to discuss the ongoing tracking and researching of unidentified flying objects over the United States. So far, the White House has confirmed three more UFOs were shot down in the U.S. airspace with no country claiming the objects. President Biden, however, has not publicly addressed the issue. "There are those out there wondering why the president hasn’t addressed the American public," Tur said. "There are a lot of Republican lawmakers saying he needs to say something. The Prime Minister of Canada said something to the Canadian people. Why is the president not coming out. Is one of the reasons the president hasn’t come out is that the White Hou

Karine Jean-Pierre is asked: “Has the FBI conducted or will they conduct additional searches of President Biden’s homes or offices?”

White House press secretary   Karine Jean-Pierre   was called out over the weekend after struggling to explain why the U.S. military shot down an unidentified airborne object over Canada. A "high-altitude airborne object" over Northern Canada was shot down by an F-22 fighter jet at the directive of President Biden, a North American Aerospace Defense Command [NORAD] official confirmed in a statement to TAN. The incident came one day after the United States  shot down  an unidentified object over northern Alaska on Friday that entered U.S. airspace before it was detected and a week after the U.S. shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon spotted off the coast of South Carolina. The White House confirmed President Biden authorized for the object to be shot down, but did not elaborate further. In an interview on MSNBC Sunday, Jean-Pierre was asked pointedly, "Why is the American military shooting something out of the sky over Canada?" The press secretary fumbled her wa

Timothy Parlatore told CNN that Trump was using a folder marked "Classified Evening Summary" to block the light from his bedside phone.

Timothy Parlatore, who represents Trump in both the special counsel investigation into the former president’s handling of classified material and the probe related to the   January 6, 2021, attack   on the US Capitol, confirmed that additional classified documents were found during a search in December and turned over to the Justice Department. “We’ve tried to do searches of all the relevant places, and anytime we’ve found anything, we’ve immediately turned it over,” Parlatore told CNN in an exclusive interview, painting his client as cooperative in the ongoing criminal probe. He also confirmed that Trump’s team handed over to DOJ an empty manilla folder marked “Classified Evening Summary” after receiving a subpoena for that item, which was found in the former president’s bedroom. According to Parlatore, Trump had effectively been using the empty folder as a lamp shade to block a light on his landline telephone that was keeping him up at night. “He has one of those landline telephone

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tells CNN's Jake Tapper why she still uses TikTok despite some states banning usage on government devices.

Gov.   Gretchen Whitmer, D-Mich.,   was pressed on why she's still active on TikTok despite national security risks and claimed that the way she uses it is "secure." CNN's Jake Tapper noted Whitmer was "active on TikTok" and said that he understands because it's "fun." Tapper explained that he deleted the app from his phone because of the many people who warned him about the Chinese government having access to his information.  He asked the Michigan governor if it was appropriate for her to use and post to the Chinese-owned app.  "We have it on one device that has no access to anything else," she said. "Because so many people get their information that way. Whether we like it or not, that is a tool for disseminating important information and that’s how we use it, but we’re always evaluating, because we want to make sure that we are protecting data in Michigan. And that’s why we’re always evaluating, but at this point, the way

Jen Psaki calls Trump's handling of docs 'horrifying,' still defends Biden

Image
Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki took a swipe at former President Donald Trump while downplaying the political fallout for President Biden in the wake of   classified material   found in his possession.  Psaki joined MSNBC’s "The Reiout"  to voice her opinion on the matter, arguing the recent trove of classified documents uncovered at the Penn Biden Center and the president's Wilmington home won't be a political problem for him in the future.  The discovery of classified documents from Biden's time as vice president during the Obama years came as a surprise, the president said Tuesday when he addressed the revelations. Psaki cited Trump's stance on election denial and the DOJ's investigation as a difference between the two leaders. She called Trump's handling of his Mar-a-Lago classified documents "horrifying." ‘Job typically done by staff not national security head’: Psaki on White House moves, Biden docs
