Liberals Gain Control of Wisconsin Supreme Court for the first time in 15 years

Democratic-backed Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janet Protasiewicz won the crucial seat, defeating Republican-backed former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly.

The court will now be controlled 4-3 by left-leaning justices for at least the next two years. During that time, the court is expected to decide on a pending lawsuit challenging the state’s 1849 law banning abortion.

Protasiewicz, 60, described herself as feeling "delighted and thrilled" after voters elected her in the consequential contest that gave the court's liberal members a majority for the first time in 15 years.

Over 1.7 million Wisconsin voters participated in the Tuesday election — surpassing the approximately 1.6 million voters who took part in the 2011 election, which elected Justice David Prosser.

Wisconsin's Supreme Court race was also the most expensive in U.S. history, topping $42 million and nearly tripling the previous national record for a court race.

"I feel great. I could not feel better," Protasiewicz told The Associated Press after the win. "I am surprised by the results and the magnitude of the victory here. We are absolutely delighted and thrilled."

Trump loves winning, but he also loves tearing down losers who don’t want his help.

And that’s exactly what he’s doing here with Daniel Kelly, who lost last night in Wisconsin to a radical leftist in a closely watched state Supreme Court race.

Here’s the post:

This just isn’t helpful and it’s not really about Daniel Kelly not wanting Trump’s endorsement. What this post from Trump is really about is him stroking his ego.

Trump claims that his endorsement would have won the day for Kelly, but he didn’t give it because he says Kelly didn’t want it.

Well if Trump truly believes that, why didn’t he tell his MAGA crowd to vote for Kelly anyway? He talks endlessly about the 2020 election being stolen and I’m sure he realizes how important this race would be for the 2024 presidential election in Wisconsin. Why didn’t he tell his MAGA crowd to ensure Kelly won to protect Wisconsin for the 2024 general election?

And if Trump’s endorsement is such a guarantee on winning, then what happened in the Pennsylvania Senate race last November. What happened in the Georgia Senate race last November? What happened in the Arizona governor’s race last November?

I’m just saying that Trump likes to talk in absolutes when in reality it’s possible, even likely that an endorsement from him wouldn’t have won the race for Kelly.

I guess I’m just getting sick of Trump constantly stroking his ego like this when he could have done more and didn’t do it…because of his ego.

NBC Washington Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade join Andrea Mitchell to discuss key challenges facing the January 6 Committee ahead of their primetime hearings this week: getting a "distracted nation" to pay attention and understand what's at stake. “I think the biggest challenge for lawmakers here, as they talk about these sort of huge ideas of American democracy and sort of the experiment that we're all living in, benefiting from, possibly being brought to his knees, is whether or not they can make people care,” says Alcindor. “The American public has been groomed to expect high value quick entertainment,” says McQuade. "I think putting together a polished show can be very important."
