Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan reacts to handling of CHOP and to calls for defunding police

Image
The Seattle Times  reported  late Thursday that three council members threw their support behind Decriminalize Seattle and King County Equity Now. The paper described Decriminalize Seattle as a coalition inspired by the Black Lives Matter protests that seek the defunding. Seattle has recently been the focus of an intense protest that occupied a precinct and about six city streets called CHOP. The city eventually removed the protesters but not before two people were killed by gunfire. The Seattle City Council has enough support in its body to defund the city’s police department by 50 percent even without Mayor Jenny Durkan’s approval, a report said. Breaking News:Father of teen killed in Seattle's CHOP zone speaks out: 'Somebody needs to tell me something'

Compounding the father’s grief were reports that first responders who came to the CHOP zone to transport the shooting victims to the hospital encountered an angry mob that denied them entry. The pair were taken to Harborview Medical Center by self-described “CHOP medics,” and Anderson’s son was pronounced dead on arrival. “My son needed help, and I don’t feel like they helped my son," Anderson said. “I feel like he doesn’t -- without this, he would just be nobody. He’s just -- it doesn't matter, he’s just another guy. Just another child, just swept up under the rug, and that’s it and forgotten about.” His son’s death has left him heartbroken, Anderson told a visibly moved Hannity. “I wake up in the morning... I look for my son in the morning,” he said. “He’s not there no more. You know what I’m saying? It’s like I go in there, I’m kissing a picture. He’s not there.” Thursday’s phone call from Trump helped Anderson get through a day that no pa...

Seattle's police chief calls for an end to the violence, Seattle mayor who loved CHAZ protest freaks out when it comes to her house

Seattle  Department of Transportation crews on Tuesday began removing concrete barriers marking the entrance to the area protesters are calling the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, or CHOP. A crew used heavy machinery to remove the concrete barriers at 10th and East Pine Street. Seattle Police officers were also at the scene to assist crews in case protesters intervened. Protesters almost immediately began to construct a makeshift barricade to take the concrete barrier’s place, moving furniture, trash cans and plywood into the road to continue to block traffic into the area. #BREAKING : Seattle Police just showed here at #CHOP with SDOT. Multiple pieces of heavy machinery now moving barricades. The Trump Crackdown Begins: Seattle's Democrati leaders' attempts to dismantle CHOP 'autonomous zone' have been unsuccessful

Image
On Monday,  Democratic leadership announced  their intention to put an end to CHOP after two recent shootings -- one of which was deadly. However, Seattle Police Officers Guild President Mike Solan said the effort to do so was met with resistance and the problem is far from over. "There were some city entities, as far as heads, that went into the area yesterday to try to remove some of the boundary areas -- as far as blockades -- and they were met with resistance. Armed people flocked into the area and prevented those city entities, those agencies to get the job done," he told Cavuto. "So no, this has not been solved. It's deeply troubling still." Solan reiterated that the Pacific Northwest metropolis's "fundamental lack of leadership" has been damning for his department, citing the ban of chemical munitions. "And, as I mentioned on your show last time as well, the West Precinct downtown --...
